The Opportunity
One of the beverage plants was experiencing quality issues with the bottles they were producing. Some of the bottles had too much material in the panel area of the bottles called “panel folds”, and off center gates which was not just a quality problem, but one that negatively impacted the line efficiencies as well.
The Innovation
A PTI team member was sent in to review the package and machine to determine the corrective action needed for the defect. After closely reviewing plant data and current machine settings, adjustments were made to flow controls and pre-blow settings to correct the issue.
The Outcome
The line efficiencies increased from 78% to 92% through this effort. It is estimated that this savings was in the order of several hundred CFM of air per hour.
