The Opportunity

The customer came to PTI with a need to downsize three sizes of dish liquid bottles in order to keep price points constant for its value-conscious consumer and meet marketing objectives. As a self-manufacturer and the project’s vast scope (bottle design, capital investment, production facility impact, etc.), the company wanted to make sure that all changes were carefully thought out before implementation as this bottle conversion would impact half of the manufacturing capacity. It was key that PTI was able to assist in the initial design phases and assist all the way through to production startup to ensure success.

The Innovation

The client required that certain design elements were incorporated into the new design to maintain brand recognition, along with additional requirements to maintain a specific height profile to facilitate shelf placement. The other significant issue was that the bottle design had to be forgiving enough to run across all of the brand’s blow molding platforms—ranging from new to 20-year-old equipment, with and without preferential capabilities as well as mold compensation.

The Outcome

The customer agreed on a new design and established the new sizes for the conversion. PTI provided onsite plant support to help establish processing parameters and perform production qualification testing. This project utilized most of PTI’s departments and capabilities; from design, virtual prototyping, testing labs, tooling services, on-site plant support and production.
