The Opportunity
A large carbonated soft drink plant installed a new line to produce eight different types of bottles. During a line audit, it was determined that this new line was actually the least efficient of the entire plant.
The Innovation
A team was formed with personnel from different parts of the blow molding department including forklift operators, machine operators, maintenance, other support members and an individual from PTI to chair and lead the team. PTI led the discussions, introduced tools to analyze the problems and directed forward actions.
The Outcome
As a result of the project, plant efficiency was increased by 20%. The results of this work also reduced quality complaints and improved the overall environment where people felt that they could make a difference.
