| Flake | 750 grams |
This procedure determines the amount of floatable materials in a PET flake sample.
A known weight of PET is placed in a glass beaker, filled with distilled water and stirred several times to initiate separation of air from the flake surfaces. The floating material is then removed from the water surface and the weight of floatables is determined. Floatables are typically other types of plastic, labels, wood or debris.
